The MCE team of biosafety professionals, microbiologists, biocontainment architects and engineers have over 30 years of experience and have provided assistance to hundreds of BSL3 laboratories globally. We pride ourselves on delivering biocontainment projects that are comprehensively commissioned and certified on schedule. Our company also has direct and relevant experience in providing biosafety, biosecurity and biorisk management consultancy services to governments, academia and private industry in all regions of the world. MCE’s Director of International Programs, Maureen Ellis, an IFBA Certified Professional and Registered Microbiologist, has been consulted on the design and certification of biocontainment facilities and the development of national biosafety policies and guidelines in South-East Asia, Central Asia, South America and Africa. As a former member of the World Health Organization’s Biosafety Advisory Group, she was also a key figure in the development of the WHO’s Laboratory Biosafety Manual. 


In 2007, M. Ellis was awarded the Arnold G. Wedum Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contributions to biosafety. In 2010 she was presented with the ERG Research Foundation Lecture Award in recognition of her accomplishments that contribute to the awareness of biological and occupational safety. She is the first Canadian to receive these awards.


Ms. Ellis holds a Masters Degree in Microbiology from University of Ottawa. She is an IFBA Certified Professional in Biorisk Management, Biosecurity, Biological Risk Assessment and Biocontainment Facilities. She is also an Accredited Biocontainment Facility Certifier with the Singapore Ministry of Health.
